Data governance in LS R-7 – protecting our student and staff information

Lee’s Summit R-7 School District is committed to protecting our students’ and staff’s secure and private information. The security, safety and protection of our student data is important to us and it is a significant responsibility that we honor and accept. Our district’s technology team operates from a comprehensive plan for securing our data – including vendor addendums and agreements, policies, procedures and practices that constantly and consistently evaluate the security of our platforms and our data.

CFMP Engagement Reminder – first survey launches on Monday, August 27

This school year, we are engaging families, students, staff and community members around the development of a new Comprehensive Facilities Master Plan (CFMP) for Lee’s Summit R-7 schools. During the fall, we will ask community members about their priorities around short and medium term solutions to meet current capacity needs in the district. We will also focus on our community’s long term vision for developing learning environments that encourage future-ready learning for all students.

Learning for Life – Jennifer Maynard at Underwood Elementary

This month, the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District is pleased to announce Ms. Jennifer Maynard as the Learning for Life award winner. Ms. Maynard is a Behavior Interventionist at Underwood Elementary. The Learning for Life Award is presented to one employee each month and rotates between elementary certified, secondary certified and support staff. Winners are nominated by co-workers and selected by a team of employees.

LS R-7 is pleased to announce the launch of the League of Visionary Educators (L.O.V.E.). The League of Visionary Educators will be a group of teachers serving as the Superintendent’s visionary council. We asked teachers: Are you looking for opportunities to grow and sprint out ahead of the vision for our schools?  Do you want to contribute to the vision of the Lee’s Summit School District and collaborate in purposeful conversation with the Superintendent?  

Our teachers’ voices are important to the story of our schools and we are looking for those voices to make an impact.

Summit Technology Academy students and partners refurbish computers for community students in need

KC For Refugees and Immigrants in Kansas City works to supply computers to families in need. When an area business donated recycled computers, KC For Refugees called Summit Technology Academy (STA) for help.

Summit Technology Academy partnered with KC for Refugees and Immigrants in Kansas City to supply refurbished computers to families and students in need. When an area business donated recycled computers, the students knew they had a unique service opportunity on their hands. The computers lacked hard drives, wireless cards, and an operating system. The job wasn’t easy, but the students and community partners were determined to make refurbished computers available to students and families who needed them. STA International Studies teacher Curtis Cook attributed the success of this collaboration to both students and community partners.

Bus Transportation – viewing route information

After completing the online registration process, bus information will be available to all parents beginning Wednesday, August 1.  Parents will access information about bus routes, bus numbers and stop times by logging into the PowerSchool Parent Portal and clicking on the Bus Information icon.
