Lee’s Summit R-7 families invited to use My School Bucks to track their children’s school meals

Web-based program provides records of student purchases, account balances and payment options

Lee’s Summit R-7 School District families have the opportunity to track their children’s school lunch and breakfast purchases, check meal account balances, receive low-balance alerts and pay for meals through a web-based program known as My School Bucks. The convenient meal online payment and monitoring program is available on the R-7 Nutrition Services webpage (upper right portion of page) at http://leessummitschoolnutrition.com.

Small group of LSNHS students leads effort to raise money and awareness for suicide prevention

Ten girls work together to organize and present concert benefiting ReDiscover’s Zero Youth Suicide Team

During fall 2018, a small group of Lee’s Summit North High School students came together with one goal — to help others and make a positive difference following the loss of two classmates to suicide. The 10 students went above and beyond with this goal, organizing a spring concert that raised $8,000 to assist with suicide prevention while increasing awareness of mental health issues.

PLMS football team recognized by LS Parks and Recreation

The Pleasant Lea Middle School football team will receive the Special Projects Award for 2017 from the Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation on April 26 at the Gamber Center. Matt Sisk, social studies teacher, organized a work day for the entire football team to work at Lea McKeighan South. They planted trees, mulched, picked up trash and raked the playground mulch. Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation officials added that they are grateful for their hard work and dedication to beautifying the parks.

Lee’s Summit R-7 students qualify for National FBLA Contest

Students from all three Lee’s Summit R-7 high schools recently captured awards at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Leadership Conference with eight students qualifying for the FBLA national competition. The state conference was held in early April in Springfield and included workshops, keynotes and professional networking with Fortune 500 companies as well as the competitive events.

Anne Braun named R-7 Teacher of the Year

Excellence In Teaching winners honored at April 11 event

Anne Braun, a fifth- and sixth-grade teacher at Woodland Elementary, was named Lee’s Summit R-7 School District 2018 Teacher of the Year during a surprise announcement at an April 11 community reception. The reception also recognized 12 R-7 teachers who had been named Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce Excellence In Teaching Award winners earlier this spring.
