Lee’s Summit R-7 School District Hires Five Administrators

The Lee’s Summit R-7 District Board of Education met April 15, 2021 and approved the employment of administrators who will begin their tenure in July 2021.

The Board approved the employment of Dr. Heather Kenney as Assistant  Superintendent of Elementary Education, effective July 1, 2021. Dr. Kenney, currently the principal at Summit Pointe Elementary, has worked in education for 21 years, previously serving as assistant principal at Cedar Creek Elementary and curriculum project coordinator and teacher in North Kansas City Schools.

Dr. Kenney received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from University of Missouri-Kansas City, her master’s degree in educational administration from UMKC and her doctoral degree in educational leadership from Baker University.

Dr. Kenney received the Exemplary New Principal of the Year Award from the Kansas City Suburban Elementary Principals Association.

 

The Board approved the employment of Mr. Tim Collins as Director of Secondary Online, effective July 26, 2021. Mr. Collins, currently assistant principal at Lee’s Summit North High School, has worked in education for 14 years, previously serving as a social studies teacher and football/baseball coach.

Mr. Collins received his bachelor’s degree in education from University of Missouri-Kansas City, his master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Baker University, his specialist’s degree in school leadership from University of Central Missouri, and he expects to receive his doctoral degree in educational leadership from William Woods University in 2021.

Mr. Collins received the Assistant Principal of the Year Award from the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan Principals Association.

 

The Board approved the employment of Dr. Joy Brigman as Director of Elementary Online, effective July 26, 2021. Dr. Brigman, currently assistant principal at Prairie View Elementary, has worked in education for 26 years, previously serving as a principal and teacher at Meadow Lane Elementary, teacher in the Independence School District and a teacher in North Carolina.

Dr. Brigman received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and early childhood education from Northwest Missouri State University, her master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Central Missouri and her doctoral degree in education from Baker University.

 

The Board approved the employment of Ms. Evonne Medrano as assistant principal at Summit Lakes Middle School, effective July 19, 2021. Ms. Medrano, currently a fourth grade teacher in the LSR7 Online Academy, has worked in education for 18 years, previously serving as a teacher at Lee’s Summit Elementary, teacher at Woodland Elementary, a lead teacher in the Raytown C-2 School District and a teacher in California.

Ms. Medrano received her bachelor’s degree in psychology and child development from Whittier College, her master’s degree in education from Whittier and her specialist’s degree in educational leadership K-8 from California State Polytechnic University.

Ms. Medrano received the Educator of the Year award through LatinX Education Collaborative.

 

The Board approved the employment of Ms. Jeanie Cook as principal at Great Beginnings Early Childhood Center, effective July 1, 2021. Ms. Cook, currently the assistant principal at Great Beginnings Early Education Center, has worked in education for 30 years, previously serving as an administrator for LSR7’s Summer Learning Institute and Extended School Year, a teacher at Westview, Underwood and Pleasant Lea elementary schools, a teacher in Kansas City Public Schools and a preschool operator. 

Ms. Cook received her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from the University of Central Missouri, her master’s degree in education administration from UCM and her specialist’s degree in district leadership from William Woods University. 

Ms. Cook received the 2012-2013 LSR7 Teacher of the Year award.
