LSHS partners with Lee’s Summit Elementary to present engineering activities to sixth-graders
Students from Lee’s Summit High School’s engineering and industrial technology classes recently partnered with Lee’s Summit Elementary School to present STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) activities to sixth-graders.
The high-school students visited the elementary classrooms on May 7 with the sixth-graders visiting Lee’s Summit High School on May 8. The activity was designed to encourage the younger students to consider engineering or other related careers.
Bob Sauer, LSHS engineering technology teacher, and Deanna Soukup, LSHS computer science teacher, worked with sixth-grade teachers Cheri Beall and Kelly Eames to develop the activities. The partnership between the two schools is funded by a $2,500 grant earned by members of Mr. Sauer’s class who finished as finalists in the Kansas City metro areas Battle of the Brains competition.
