LSR7 Robotics Coaches Named Citizens of the Year

Lee’s Summit Mayor Bill Baird chose Lee’s Summit High School teacher Wyatt Durgan and his wife, Crystal, as Lee’s Summit’s Citizens of the Year.

The couple received the honor for improving the lives of students and developing students’ skills, including designing, machining, leading, communicating, marketing, being an entrepreneur and managing. With their robotics expertise and passion for education, the Durgans have made a difference for LSR7 students. Crystal, who works as a project manager in clinical research, is a volunteer LSR7 robotics coach, and Wyatt is a LSHS teacher and the head coach for these robotics programs:

  • Lee’s Summit High School – Team Driven 1730
  • Pleasant Lea Middle School
    • Tiger STEAM Black 12381
    • Tiger STEAM Gold 13435
    • Tiger STEAM Silver 18245
  • Lee’s Summit Elementary and Cedar Creek Elementary – FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Lego League
  • Junior Robotics League (K-8)

“Wyatt and Crystal’s impact on the Lee’s Summit community is truly inspiring,” Mayor Baird said. “They have selflessly volunteered hundreds of hours to mentor the next generation of leaders and innovators in Lee’s Summit. Their enthusiasm and commitment to help each student reach their full potential makes Lee’s Summit a better place to live, learn and grow.”
