LSR7 Shares Safe Return Plan
Keeping our students and staff safe and our schools open remains a top priority for the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District. Our 2021-22 Safe Return plans aims to ensure — to the best of our ability — consistent, in-person learning for all students who wish to learn in our school buildings this year.
The Board of Education voted on Thursday, Aug. 5, to require universal indoor masking in our school district for all individuals, regardless of vaccination status. The Board’s mask requirement will take effect on Monday, Aug. 9, the same day a 30-day mask mandate issued by Jackson County takes effect. The Board will reevaluate its mask requirement at the first quarter mark.
Mask-wearing is one of many mitigation strategies we will utilize as we begin a new school year. Please note that updated Jackson County Health Department guidance will empower us to implement preventative measures and minimize disruptions to in-person learning. These updates include:
Student Mask-Wearing Limits Quarantines: New contact tracing protocols state that students determined to be close contacts of COVID-19 positive individuals this year will not be quarantined if both students are correctly wearing masks at the time of contact and the exposed student is not presenting symptoms.
Vaccinations Limits Quarantines: Public health experts recognize vaccinations as the most effective means of protection from COVID-19. Vaccinated individuals of any age will not be quarantined after being exposed to a positive individual as long as they are not showing symptoms. Vaccinations are currently available for individuals 12 and older and can be accessed through health care providers, local pharmacies and at many annual immunization clinics. Prevention: LSR7 will continue preventative measures such as physical distancing, contact tracing and cleaning/disinfection protocols to keep our school environments safe. We’ll locate our Safe Return plan on our district homepage.

Taking proactive steps to keep cases and exposures low within LSR7 protects our school community and helps us achieve our shared goal of providing a consistent in-person experience for our students. We look forward to welcoming you to the 2021-22 school year and thank you for your partnership as we work to keep our school community safe.
