Summer School: LSR7 adjusts Summer Learning Institute plan

The school district is committed to hosting summer school while keeping students, staff and families safe and healthy to our greatest ability. To that end, the district has made adjustments to its typical summer school plan.

Elementary: The district will not start summer school in early June. Instead, the elementary Summer Learning Institute will run from June 29 to July 23. Here are other important details for families to know:

  • Elementary Summer Learning Institute Course Catalog is available now.
  • Students will be able to enroll starting at 8 a.m. on May 18 through June 1. Enrollment directions will be included in the May 13 communication. Power School Enrollment Portal
  • The program will run Monday – Thursday from June 29 to July 23.
  • Transportation: The only transportation that is available is at our Title I sites- Meadow Lane and Prairie View.
  • The proposed schedule for SLI classes is as follows:
    • 8:15 a.m. to 2:15 pm for the following schools
      • Meadow Lane  *Title transportation provided with Westview
      • Hawthorn Hill
      • Longview Farm
      • Note: Kindergarten dismissal at 12:15 p.m.
    • 9:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
      • Prairie View  *Title transportation provided with Lee’s Summit Elementary
      • Sunset Valley
      • Underwood
      • Note: Kindergarten dismissal at 1:15 p.m.

**Note: The district believes that SLI instruction for elementary students is most effectively delivered in-person. That being said, it is a real possibility that social distancing mandates related to COVID-19 could impact our ability to meet in person for summer school. Because the district does not believe it can effectively hold elementary summer school virtually at this time, the district plans to proactively communicate if it appears the June 29-July 22 window is not feasible. Any decision to cancel Elementary SLI will be communicated no later than June 15.

  • Incoming kindergartners will need to have full immunization to participate in SLI. Kindergartners must also provide proof of residency documentation.
  • Students participating in SLI should enroll based on their 2020-21 grade.

Secondary: Summer Learning Institute program for middle and high school students will be held entirely online this summer. Summer school will occur from May 29 to July 3. Here are other important dates for families to know:

  • The enrollment link on the Secondary Summer School page http://summerschool.lsr7.org will open on May 4.
  •  Students will be able to enroll from 3 p.m. on May 5 through May 22.

Additional Elementary Learning Opportunities: The district will be providing bi-weekly learning opportunities on Schoology for 2020-21 for 1st through 6th graders starting mid-June and running through the start of August for families that wish to stay connected to incoming grade-level learning. This will be for independent learning or with assistance from home – there will not be an actual teacher to turn work into or feedback provided.
