LSR7 Board of Education places no tax rate increase bond issue on April 7 ballot

The Lee’s Summit R-7 Board of Education approved placement of a no tax rate increase bond issue on the April 7 ballot following the recommendation of a community team. The $224 million bond includes construction of a new middle school, school renovations and improvements, conversion of part of an existing elementary school into an early education center and safety and security upgrades.

Potential “no tax increase” April 2020 bond issue – updated webpage through CFMP site

Thank you to those who completed our community telephone survey and/or online surveys relating to a potential Spring 2020 “no tax increase” bond issue. We are currently in the information gathering stage of preparing for an anticipated “no tax increase” bond issue and are working with Patron Insight to finish compiling the survey data. The first round of telephone survey topline data was presented to the Citizens’ Advisory Committee and the Board of Education this week.

A community survey opportunity

Recall that in August the Board of Education approved this board priority: 

Board Priority Two: Ensure equitable access to future ready learning environments by further engaging stakeholders in the continued implementation of the Comprehensive Facility Master Plan by identifying preK-12 facility projects in anticipation of an April 2020 “no tax increase” bond issue.

Board of Education votes to proceed with 6th grade to Middle School decision, beginning with the 2022-2023 school year

At the regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, September 25, 2019, the Board of Education unanimously voted to approve moving our 6th graders to the middle school environment, beginning with the 2022-2023 school year. This move will be in conjunction with proposed facility projects relating to the middle school environment through our CFMP work.

Meadow Lane Elementary has earned a $212,102 Kauffman Foundation grant to support implementation of project based learning and innovative practices. This announcement comes after a competitive grant application process. The grant aims to transform instructional methods at Meadow Lane Elementary.
