LSW Senior Abigail White Named Journalist of the Year

Lee’s Summit West High School senior Abigail White has been named the 50th annual Missouri Interscholastic Press Association Student Journalist of the Year. This is the first time in LSWHS school history that a student has earned this honor.

Students from Lee’s Summit high schools nominated for U.S. Air Force Academy

Congressman Emanuel Cleaver II nominated two students for the U.S. Air Force Academy: Luke Poudel, Lee’s Summit West High School, and Austin Merit, Lee’s Summit North High School.

Luke participates in band, Junior ROTC and soccer. He also volunteers for Harvesters. Austin is involved in National Honor Society, cross country, his church youth group, ROTC and color guard. He is also the AFJROTC Group Commander and Drill Team Commander and an Optimist Student of the Month.

Congratulations, Luke and Austin! We are proud of you.

Lee’s Summit All-High School Smart Program to host annual ‘Freeze Out’ to benefit local Lee’s Summit charities and the​ ​​​Shoes for Orphan Souls ​program​

Tiger Smart, Bronco Smart and Titan Smart will participate in our annual “Freeze Out” from 5 to 9 p.m. Dec. ​7​ in front of Lee’s Summit High School.

Students will remain outside for four hours. During this time, they will collect clothing, especially coats and winter apparel, to be donated to local charities. This year ​an additional focus will be on collecting  donations of ​new or gently used shoes as part of the Shoes for Orphan Souls program. ​Community members are encouraged to drop off their donations at the school’s Building A south entrance, near the tiger head.

LSW Theatre’s Mamma Mia! opens this weekend

Lee’s Summit West High School continues their theatre season this weekend with the Missouri high school premier of the musical, Mamma Mia!  A mother. A daughter. Three possible dads. And a trip down the aisle you’ll never forget! Packed with iconic songs from the legendary group ABBA, an unforgettable story, and hilariously compelling characters, Mamma Mia! will have you dancing in your seat and bringing the music to the streets. If you’ve seen the movie, you won’t want to miss this feel-good show. Mamma Mia! runs November 3, 9 and 10 at 7 p.m. and November 4 and 11 at 2 p.m.  This show is rated PG.
