The Missouri Innovation Campus and Summit Technology Academy building won the Grand Prize Award in the annual release of the nation’s best education design and construction process showcase through “Learning By Design” magazine. Five education facility design projects across the country were awarded Grand Prize. A distinguished panel of eight architects, education administrators and facility professionals reviewed 72 submissions and selected five Grand Prize Award-winning facilities that “are simply amazing projects.” Each of the five projects combined all the elements that make a learning environment successful—transparency, connectivity, safety, sustainability, great interiors, purposeful functional design and sophistication.

Lee’s Summit High School graduate (2018) Zachary Burton started inquiring about solar energy opportunities as a sophomore in 2016. He worked with city architects, city council members, and local business to transform a promising idea into a sustainable reality. This week, Zach, the City of Lee’s Summit and MC Power celebrated the installation of ground-based solar panels at the Lee’s Summit Animal Control Facility, which will save the City of Lee’s Summit more than $130,000 over the next 25 years.
