The Battle of the Brains bus rolled into the Summit Technology Academy parking lot shortly after noon. A group of engineering students were waiting for them, but the red carpet and silly string and competition swag and applause were for seven special students.

District field technology specialist Dawn Carl learned she is LSR7’s November Learning for Life Award winner during a surprise presentation attended by colleagues and family at Summit Technology Academy. Learning for Life Award winners are nominated by co-workers and selected by a team of employees each year. The award is presented to one employee each month and rotates between elementary certified, secondary certified and support staff.

Summit Technology Academy teams had a fantastic showing at MORENet’s (that’s Missouri Research and Education Network) Missouri High School Cyber Security Challenge at the Lake of the Ozarks last week.

Students from the Summit Technology Academy Biomedical Innovation program won top 15 awards at Project Lead the Way – KC’s annual Biomedical Research Competition, hosted by the KC STEM Alliance. The competition featured 62 projects from 87 students to highlight PLTW senior capstone projects and recognize excellence in biomedical science. Competition winners earn scholarships that support continued STEM education.
